Bakers Delight: from dough to door.

Our long term relationship with this Aussie staple led us to creating their first online ordering system for their extensive catalogue of baked goods.

The challenge

What needed to change.

Bakers Delight is an Australian staple, with an extensive catalogue of baked goods that customers know by heart. Until now, buying any of it meant walking into a bakery. The business needed an eCommerce system that was easy to navigate and simple for customers to use, and the size of the range made that harder than it sounds.

With so many products and so many customisation options, a website could easily overwhelm people with choice. It also had to be responsive and work across multiple devices, because customers order from whatever device is in their hand at the time, and a transaction that stalls on a phone is a sale lost.

Approach

How the work took shape.

When Bakers Delight first approached us in 2018 to build its website, we knew it would be the start of a long standing partnership. Two years of working together gave us a unique insight into how the next iteration of the website should work, and into how to address the long term vision for an eCommerce solution.

We decided to treat the catalogue itself as the starting point, to keep every ordering decision short and clear, and to prove the system in a small number of bakeries before taking it to the whole network. Then we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.

The shift

The range was both the risk and the asset, so ordering was built around one decision at a time.
