The challenge

What needed to change.

Steel Window Designs is a leading Australian manufacturer known for its custom made steel windows and doors. The quality of the work was never in question; the website presenting it was.

The old website had an outdated design and a limited structure, and it was not easy to navigate. Users found it hard to explore product options or get a sense of the brand’s quality. On the client’s side, updating content or adding new projects took unnecessary effort and time.

Approach

How the work took shape.

The brief was to create a visually appealing, functional and flexible website that looked premium while being simple for the client to maintain. Those two goals pull in different directions more often than people expect, so we treated the balance between elegance and usability as the central design decision rather than an afterthought.

For customers, that meant a structure built around the three things they come looking for: products, projects and resources. For the team, it meant a backend shaped around the content they update most, product listings and new projects.

Navigation came first. A new mega menu would let users browse quickly across products, projects and resources, replacing the limited structure of the old website with one that shows the range at a glance.

On the backend, we chose to build a custom CMS using ACF fields rather than rely on a generic template, so that every field the team edits matches the way they think about a product or a project. That is what makes updates quick without technical help.

We also decided to migrate and refresh all of the existing project content rather than start the portfolio from scratch, because that extensive body of work is the strongest proof of the craftsmanship. Enquiries and visual updates would be handled through Contact Form 7 and an Instagram feed, keeping both simple and connected.

The shift

A premium look and an easy backend are usually traded off; here they had to arrive together.
