The challenge

What needed to change.

Workforce Extensions places people in jobs across almost every industry, working through a network of more than 25 branches around Australia. The network runs as a franchise, and each branch is owned and run by a local businessperson who knows their own market.

That structure is a strength for the business and a problem for a website. A single national presence had to represent every branch, yet a job seeker or employer who enquired needed to reach their local office, not head office, and each franchisee needed a page of their own.

Workforce Extensions approached us to build a new website for their franchised business, with a Seek Jobs plugin, that would feed all enquiries directly to the appropriate office. Each office required their own unique page with social plugins, and some locations required additional plugins.

The existing website could not do this, and the comparison between old and new shows how much had to change.

Approach

How the work took shape.

The decision was to build one hero website rather than a collection of separate branch websites. A single build meant every franchisee would share the same search visibility, the same search function and the same standard of design, while the routing of enquiries and the content of each office page could still be local.

Getting there depended on the franchisees themselves, so the first stage of the work was gathering information from every office in the network before the structure was finalised.

We worked together with the Workforce Extensions team to gather information from all franchise offices, and create a hero website that benefited all franchisees with SEO, search function, and other benefits, whilst still directing individual forms to unique email addresses.

The Seek Jobs plugin brought live listings into the website, and the office pages were built to carry the social plugins each franchisee wanted, with additional plugins for the locations that needed them.

The shift

One website could serve more than 25 independent owners only if every enquiry landed on the right desk.
