Vocam: a website for a growing workplace training platform.

Vocam is known in its industry by one name and sells a product under another. Two websites on one codebase gave the business and its platform, BTTV, a clear role each.

The challenge

What needed to change.

Vocam has evolved its workplace training videos from VHS to DVD to online, and its website needed to reflect that progress. The business wanted to promote its free trial offer and increase user sign ups, but visitors first had to understand what they were looking at.

That was the underlying problem. Vocam is the name the industry knows, while BTTV, or Business Training Television, is the product it sells. On the old website the two ran together, so prospective customers could not tell the company from the platform, and each had a different story to tell.

Approach

How the work took shape.

A connected multisite.

We decided to build a multisite running from a single codebase rather than two unrelated websites. Vocam would become the information website for the business, and BTTV would be the place to showcase the platform itself, giving each a clear job while sharing one foundation for design, development and maintenance.

Integration

Each website had a distinct role to communicate, but they still had to work together as one system for the team behind them. Because the goal was more sign ups, we planned the contact and trial forms so every enquiry, from either website, would flow into the same place with a record of where it came from.

The shift

Separating the company from its product online removed the confusion that had been costing sign ups.
