The challenge

What needed to change.

Domus Lighting has spent more than 50 years building a name for innovative, high quality lighting across Australia. Retailers and wholesalers trust the brand for its reliability, design and energy efficiency, and the range and the expertise behind it have grown considerably over that time.

The website had not kept pace. It no longer reflected the brand’s standing, its innovation or the scale of products and knowledge behind it. The goal was clear: a digital platform that captured the Domus Lighting legacy, technical depth and commitment to quality, and that worked as a genuine tool for customers rather than a brochure.

Domus Lighting serves a diverse mix of users, from electricians and wholesalers to architects and designers. Each group arrives for a different reason, whether that is checking specifications, looking for inspiration or gathering technical details for a project.

The previous website struggled to support all of those needs at once. It did not provide live stock data or pricing for trade customers, and managing content in the backend was slow and clunky. Domus needed a website that worked smarter, handling complexity behind the scenes while keeping things effortless for the person using it.

Approach

How the work took shape.

We started with a deep discovery process to understand the Domus audiences, from trade professionals to curious end consumers, and how each one uses the website differently. That understanding drove every decision that followed, from the structure of the navigation to who sees what once they log in.

The interface was designed to feel clean, structured and premium, reflecting the professionalism and longevity of the brand while making navigation effortless for a first time visitor and a daily trade user alike.

The new website was built on WordPress, using a custom architecture with advanced integrations to handle complex product data and different user experiences. Rather than one experience for everyone, we implemented a tiered user system so that access levels could match each type of customer.

The most important decision was to connect the website directly to the Domus internal systems, so that stock and pricing information for trade customers would always be live rather than copied across by hand.

The shift

The website had to be a showroom for designers and a stock counter for the trade at the same time.
