Little Lane: dreaming big with early learning.

Little Lane’s early learning centres each had their own website, so we designed one website that tells the brand story once and gives every family the same front door, wherever they live.

The challenge

What needed to change.

Little Lane runs early learning centres across several states, each in a building designed to enchant young minds. Large, light filled classrooms open onto outdoor gardens and ever changing playspaces, while dedicated art spaces, libraries and music rooms give creative spirits room to grow.

The digital experience did not match. Each centre had its own website, so families met a different front door depending on where they lived, and the brand was telling its story in several places at once.

The main challenge was structural. One hero website had to bring together universal content, state specific pages and centre specific pages with their own unique content, while keeping the user journey intuitive and sensible for a parent who simply wants to find their nearest centre.

The design brief was just as demanding. Little Lane wanted a premium look with high end custom visual assets and content that still felt relevant to the early learning sector, and still felt fun and playful.

Approach

How the work took shape.

We began by listening. Before any design work, we captured every piece of functionality the Little Lane team needed from the new website, so the structure could be resolved before the look and feel.

Structure came first because it was the hardest problem. Getting universal, state and centre content to live comfortably in one website would decide whether the rest of the project worked.

A rigorous sitemap discussion brought developers, UX and content teams into the same room. Working through it together let us show how the pages would interact and where each user journey began, and the client was happy to move on to wireframes. The wireframes then demonstrated the inclusions and functions of each page, and showed where integrations would sit within the website.

In the design phase, our UX designers worked hand in hand with brand designers to apply newly created brand assets in a dynamic and engaging style unique to Little Lane.

Newly created premium photography and video lifted the designs to the level the brief demanded, while the content was written to be warm, relatable and helpful, in line with a carefully crafted tone of voice.
