The challenge

What needed to change.

Atomos is a global manufacturer whose monitors and recorders sit on camera rigs across film, broadcast and digital production. The brand had built strong recognition through organic channels and influencer partnerships, and among working professionals it was already well known.

That recognition had a ceiling. A significant portion of potential customers remained outside Atomos’ existing marketing reach, and the brand wanted to grow beyond its established audience to attract new creatives who were not yet engaging with its ecosystem.

The challenge was to introduce Atomos to a broader but still highly relevant creative audience while protecting its premium, professional positioning. Reach for its own sake would have diluted the brand; the new audience had to be people who would genuinely use the products.

That required a strategy that could identify and engage untapped segments of filmmakers and content creators, then guide them into the sales funnel through targeted messaging and performance driven campaigns, rather than relying on organic discovery alone. It also required patience. A niche market does not reveal its best audiences and creative formats in a single burst, so the work had to be structured to learn as it went.

Atomos phase 3.

Approach

How the work took shape.

Phase one.

Phase one built broad awareness by positioning Atomos as a complete professional ecosystem rather than a collection of individual products. Messaging stayed high level and outcome led, highlighting better image quality, faster workflows and professional results over technical detail. Short form video was used to capture attention and establish credibility with filmmakers and creators ready to move beyond entry level gear.

Three insights came out of that phase. Static creative consistently outperformed video and carousel, despite a video first audience. The core target market proved highly niche, which pushed up the cost per purchase. Bold product imagery with clear, value led messaging performed best.

Phase two.

Phase two used those learnings to reach the existing core audience more effectively through a persona led creative approach. Creative and messaging were refined to speak directly to audience specific problems, motivations and aspirations, with clarity and value taking priority over format complexity. Static remained the most efficient format for scale and return, and scaling the strongest performing creative, messaging and product categories delivered outsized gains in efficiency and volume within a highly niche market.

Phase three.

With a performance formula established, phase three expanded reach beyond the niche core by targeting an emerging audience with lower cost barriers to entry. Entry level products brought new customers into the funnel earlier, while persona led creative kept the work relevant to content creators, prosumers and early career creators. Iterating on the creative frameworks from the first two phases delivered continued gains without compromising efficiency.

The shift

The audience said it wanted video; the data said static sold, and the data won.
