Retailers Beware: The Amazon Giant Is Coming

If you’re an Australian retailer and looking forward to a big year in 2017, it’s time to get your stuff in order because one of the biggest changes to the Australian retail landscape is coming:

Amazon is set to launch its online merchandise and food delivery arms in 2017, with distribution centres to be established in all major states over the next year.

The retail giant has had a limited presence here since November 2013, with digital books and Kindle e-readers available to purchase. Amazon recently launched two of its subscription services down under, with Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime now available for Aussie consumers.

What does this mean for Australian Retailers?

It’s time to review your practices. It’s time to take your business to the next level. It’s time to be ruthless.

A full UX and eCommerce audit of your website is one of the first steps you should take, looking at how well your site converts, what barriers are stopping people from purchasing and what more could be done from a marketing perspective in order to help your business grow.

If you’re not on social, set up your accounts. If you’re not sending out emails, get started. If the idea of automation confuses or scares you, it’s time to get educated. You need to write blogs. You need to have campaigns planned out in advance. You need to have someone managing your SEO and Pay Per Click in order to capitalise on search volumes.

The relationship between established brands and eCommerce stores and your consumers is going to be tested by Amazon’s low pricing and cheap shipping – now is the time to become your customers favourite store and ensure they are loyal into the future.
